More delay can expected in the announcement of the new Fiji Water Flying Fijians head coach as the ball has shifted to World Rugby and the Fijian Government to make a decision on the successful candidate.
Fiji Rugby Trustees Board Chairman, Peter Mazey in a media conference yesterday said they have given their recommendation to the Government and a team from World Rugby will be in the country on 18 March to meet and elaborate on the appointment.
He said World Rugby executives met with the Fijian High Commissioner and the First Secretary in London last Friday and they have now sent messages to the Government to try and speed up the process.
Mazey said a tripartite agreement signed in May last year gives more power to the world governing body over decisions regarding Fiji Rugby affairs and this includes the appointment of coaches.
The parties to the agreement are World Rugby, the Attorney-General, Minister for Youth and Sports, FASANOC, ONOC and Fiji Rugby Union.
He said the appointment also has to align with the Immigration Act of Fiji and a work permit for the successful applicant will only be issued if it can be proven to the authorities that the person picked for the job is the best and there are no suitable candidates in Fiji who can match his credentials.
The position of the Flying Fijians head coach has been vacant from late last year, following the resignation of Simon Raiwalui after the Rugby World Cup in France.
