Unity Fiji Party Leader Savenaca Narube is urging coalition partners to put the interest of the people first and foremost as for too long Fijians have watched politicians put their own interests ahead of the citizens.
Narube in a statement said he is concerned with the never-ending crisis in the Coalition Government.
“The honeymoon was not even over after December 2023 before the cracks started to appear.”
“The naivety of the decision of the Fukushima nuclear waste disposal was followed very closely by the blotched Cabinet reshuffle.”
“When we thought that the Government would find a new operating balance, came the sacking of Radrodro as the Minister for Education which is still swirling.”
“Then we saw the indecisiveness and lack of principles in the Winsorgate233 affair.”
The former Reserve Bank of Fiji Governor said their concern is that the Government is distracted to solving these strings of events that seem to threaten its survival.
“There are many important things that the Government must accomplish which they have not done because they are spending too much energy in firefighting rather than dealing with the huge challenges that the nation faces. Would this ever end?
“Unity Fiji echoes the question that many people are asking–Where are we going as a nation?
Narube said each crisis that the Coalition faces deepens our concern whether it will ever find time to help the poor, reverse the widening disparity in incomes, fight corruption, and moderate the cost of living.
“The families are suffering and yet we see the Government preoccupied with fighting for its survival. This must stop. The people must clearly say that enough is enough.”
“The laws, regulations and conventions of governing Fiji must be respected. These laws are there for everyone including the coalition partners. We urge the three parties in Government to follow these laws and give the Coalition the opportunity to serve the people.”
He added that if the coalition partners cannot rise above the same old, same old self-serving attitude of politicians, then voters should show them in no uncertain terms that we cannot tolerate this anymore.
