Fiji peacekeepers hope for the best: Kalouniwai

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander, Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai says that Fijian peacekeepers serving in the Middle East are safe and security works in the region are ongoing.

Speaking at the Quarterly-Parade CRMF, the Commander said it is not an easy period for Fijian soldiers to serve in the Middle East and a lot has happened since the conflict began.

Kalouniwai said it has not also been easy for the Israelis and we are hopeful that the conflict will soon be resolved.

“In the meantime, we are hopeful and work being carried out by our Fijian peacekeepers will continue, enhancing peace and security in the region.”

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israeli forces with enter Gaza’s southern city of Rafah regardless of whether a ceasefire deal is reached with Hamas.

United Nations chief Antonio Guterres called on Israel to create safety for humanitarian workers and facilitate more ‘urgently needed’ aid to Gaza.
