Ratu Naiqama elected Speaker of Parliament

The Fijian Parliament today elected Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu as the Speaker of the House.

His name was nominated by National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad while FijiFirst Member of Parliament Alvick Maharaj moved the name for Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Prof Prasad and Maharaj acted as observers and scrutinized at the count table following a secret ballot voting from the newly sworn-in Members of the Parliament.

Ratu Naiqama secured 28 votes while Ratu Epeli managed to get 27 votes.

Ratu Naiqama, a veteran politician and Tui Cakau, contested the 2022 General Election under the People’s Alliance banner.
