Self belief was key for Vunidakua

Coca-Cola Games Senior Girls Discus champion Reapi Vunidakua says self-belief was the key to first gold medal win.

The 19-year-old Ratu Sukuna Memorial School student clinched top honours with a 34.47 metres throw.

The young lass from Buliya in Kadavu had finished with a bronze medal in the same event at the 2022 Coca-Cola Games but said self-belief and self-determination pushed her through.

“It could have discouraged me, but I just believed in myself,” Vunidakua said.

“I thank my coach Faizar Ali for pushing me and not letting me give up on myself.”

Vunidakua said it was a cherished win for her, in her final year at school.

“It is awesome, not everyone can say they have a Cokes medal that they took part and this is one I will remember.

“I thank the Almighty for giving me the strength and allowing me to use my talent.”
