Team Fiji told to leave obstacles behind

President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has urged the Team Fiji athletes and officials to leave their personal issues and obstacles behind as they depart for the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands next week.

Team Fiji presented their iTatau to the President at the State House today and Katonivere said while he has a lot of confidence in the athletes; he is urging the entire team to depart as ‘True Fijians’ leaving aside obstacles and challenges that could hinder their performance at the Games.

“Leave your personal issues or anything that you think won’t be part of your success, leave it here with me because that’s one thing I know will change the cause of success.”

“Go out and do what God made you to do. Go and play for Fiji. You are going to bring greatness, championships, break records and create feats that no other has achieved.”

While the neighbouring Pacific countries will be eyeing for glory, he has encouraged Team Fiji to display their best performance in their respective events in the regional meet.

“We have gone through many challenges and disappointments in the country but it was sports that prevailed for the last 20-30 years.”

“You are going to take Fiji to another level at this year’s Pacific Games. I know and I have confidence.”

“Leave a footprint that your generations will be proud of and that people will admire and remember you even though you could not be paid with cash.

The first batch of Team Fiji athletes and officials will depart for Honiara next Tuesday.
