We can’t leave any Fijian behind: Bainimarama

FijiFirst Leader Voreqe Bainimarama says they know that they cannot leave any Fijian behind and that their success is measured by the achievements of all Fijians around the country.

Speaking at the launch of its manifesto last week, Bainimarama said the Government’s success is leveled against the job it has created; the families they have helped own homes and the businesses

Bainimarama said they have built a strong economy, created good jobs and has empowered every day hard-working Fijians and at the same time leading Fiji’s recovery with a plan to make Fiji strong.

“Our recovery plan has Fiji on course for a more than 15 per cent growth rate – the highest rate of national growth ever.”

“Job creation is breaking records and employment is rebounding to pre-COVID numbers – more than 92 per cent of the Fijian labour force is already back at work.”

“Wages are on the rise up more than $210 million over the same six-month period from last year. This means $210 million in the pockets of Fijians,” Bainimarama said.

He said in the first five months of this year, Government have already seen more than $1 billion in private sector investment.

“This means the economy is rebounding and the Government’s approach to economic revival is responsible for this success.”

“During the pandemic, FijiFirst changed or removed a number of taxes to help Fijians – including the removal of our 20 cents fuel duty, large scale reductions in custom duties, as well as the introduction of a number of VAT zero-rated items.”

Bainimarama said these tax cuts saved Fijian $600 million per year.

“A plan that is working and that will continue to work,” Bainimarama added.
