Veteran defender Ame Votoniu headed in an injury time equaliser as Nadi held leaders Rewa 1-1 in a thrilling Digicel Fiji Premier League Round 8 fixture at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva tonight.
The Delta Tigers dominated possession and created more chances in both halves of the match while Nadi’s young outfit held their own against the more classy and superior opponents.
After a goalless first half, Rewa lifted its game after the break and midfielder Patrick Joseph was able to find the back of the net in the 60 minute after breaking through the defence and beating goalkeeper Ratu Halstead.
Nadi introduced Solomon Islanders Clivert Sam and Junior Rocky to apply pressure on the Rewa defence together with lanky Siotame Kubu who worked overtime upfront throughout the encounter.
Replacement striker Epeli Valevou missed three good chances for Rewa and just when it seemed the Roderick Singh coached side was heading home with another three points, a corner kick which was floated well by Afraz Ali was headed beyond the reach of goalkeeper Jolame Domonikibau by Votoniu.
Extra Supermarket sponsored Rewa now has 20 points on the table and is five points clear of second placed Labasa while Nadi remains sixth but now has 11 points.
