Women in tech industry recognised

Outsource Fiji held the inaugural Women in Tech Awards last night in Suva to honour and celebrate the achievements of women who are breaking barriers and making significant contributions to Fiji’s tech industry.

The ceremony acknowledged 16 recipients who have demonstrated outstanding skills, innovation, and leadership in various tech-related fields.

Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, SMEs, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica who was thw chief guest at the event emphasized the need for a targeted and focused approach to digital education.

“Events like Women in Tech play a crucial role in bridging the divide and opening doors for women to actively participate and contribute to the digitalization of Fiji and fosters an environment of inclusivity and empowerment for women in the tech industry is essential for the nation’s progress.”

Outsource Fiji executive director, Sagufta Janif while congratulating the award recipients, expressed her admiration for their accomplishments and the impact they have made in the tech space.

She acknowledged that the Women in Tech Awards not only celebrate individual successes but also inspire aspiring women across the region.

As a commitment to fostering the next generation of trailblazers, Outsource Fiji will be directing 10 per cent of the proceeds from Women in Tech Awards ticket towards a scholarship for young girls, encouraging them to pursue a career in tech.

The awards not only served as a platform to recognize outstanding women but also served as a catalyst for the advancement of women in the tech industry.

The award categories and recipients are as follows:

  1. Rising Star in Tech – Ashni Singh, Developer – Team Lead, Oceanic Communications
  2. Problem-Solving Prodigy – Bandana Alisha Devi, Cybersecurity Analyst, Greymouse
  3. Tech Entrepreneur of the Year – Dipti Sharma, Founder, MyDesk/Eventuros
  4. Digital Transformations Trailblazer – Ashmita Shivani Kumar, Consultant – Technology Services, KPMG
  1. Game Changer in Tech – Joana Kabakoro-Smith, Chief Operations Officer, Fintech Pacific
  2. Tech Policy Advocate – Tupou Baravilala, Director-General, Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, SMEs and Communications
  1. Digital Visionary – Anju Mangal, Chief of Party – USAID Pacific Digital Connectivity and Cybersecurity
  1. BPO Industry Excellence Award – Carol Watkins, CEO, Pacific Centercom
  2. BPO/TELCO Special Recognition Award:
  • Elenoa Biukoto, CEO, Vodafone
  • Azariah Chung, Head of Operations, Rosie Outsourcing (Fiji) Pte Limited
