FEO to make alternative arrangements

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says the Fijian Elections Office will make alternative arrangements for polling venues that was scheduled at the Vatuwaqa Primary School on Election Day.

This is after a major fire broke out at Vatuwaqa Primary School in Suva early this morning.

Saneem has advised people not to panic and has reassured them that they will be able to cast their vote and arrangements will be made.

“I understand that there has been an incident at Vatuwaqa Primary school has suffered damage due to fire. We will confirm to you later today all the venues which will be changing for the purposes of voters and that information we are going to try and have it ready for you by tonight so that information can be published for tomorrow,” Saneem said.

“We will be making alternative arrangements with suitable locations so that voters are still able to go and vote without any disruption.”

“You might have to go probably 100 meters down the road or 100 meters up the road. But still, you will be able to go and vote and arrangements will be made.”

“In any event, voters will be notified as we will be placing a big signboard or you can say banner outside the venue where election was previously scheduled to take place. Voters will be able to go to that venue and they will know where to go next.”

“We’ve done this in 2018 and we’ll do it again in 2022. It will be very convenient for voters so on election day. The new venue will not be very far from the old venue so that should also be easy for voters to identify,” he explained.
