Captain Vateitei wins first gold in Va’a

Va’a women’s captain Elenoa Vateitei won her first gold medal on day one of second week’s competition at the 17th Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.

Vateitei finished first in the V1 Women’s single 500 meter ensuring she scoops the gold in the event.

The Fiji Women’s Outrigger Va’a also finished third in the V12 500 meter finals race.

“Happy and shocked at the moment,” she told Team Fiji media.

“The conditions were pretty tough, a lot of waves, wind but all the glory and honour goes back to the men above for helping the team and I come through the win.”

Tomorrow, Fiji will compete in the V6 500 meters and 1,500 sprints category.
