Bad weather to continue till Thursday

The Fiji Meteorological Service says an active tough of low pressure with a Tropical Disturbance, TD05F, continues to persist and affects the Fiji Group.

The system is expected to continue to bring occasional to persistent periods of rain, heavy at times, along with a possibility of thunderstorms over the Group until Thursday.

In light of this forecast, the Nadi Weather Office said a heavy rain warning remains in force for Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, the whole of Viti Levu, and across the Northern Division, while a heavy rain alert is in force for the rest of the Fiji Group.

Rainfall activity could become intense overnight or early morning as air is generally cooler at night, and cool air holds less moisture than warm air, resulting in rainfall.

Afternoon and evening thunderstorms with heavy rain are also possible.

A Strong Wind Warning also remains in force for the land areas of Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, coastal Rakiraki, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, and southern Viti Levu [Sigatoka to Navua].

Expect strong east to northerly winds with average wind speeds of up to 45 km/hour over these land areas.
