The Government has said that the Memorandum of Understanding signed with China will continue, setting the guidelines for how both countries will continue to work with each other, based on mutual respect.
This is despite Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and the Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua, having different views on the matter.
Speaking to FijiLive, Tikoduadua said that he and the Prime Minister may have different views; however, he has insisted with the Government that Fiji upholds the MOU signed with China in 2011.
He said that the Prime Minister will confirm this.
Tikoduadua said Fiji is not selling its sovereignty away by continuing to uphold the MOU.
“We have our laws to follow. The Government will continue to uphold the sovereignty and integrity… I want to reassure the Fijian people, that the Government is here to look after our interests above the interests of our partners,” Tikoduadua said.
