Govt will honor existing titles and agreements

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reassured farmers and tenants that the State will honor all existing titles and land lease agreements.

This reassurance comes in light of false information being shared in the community and on social media in relation to existing titles, leases and contracts in relation to state land.

“I have been informed that some irresponsible individuals are spreading malicious and false information. As Prime Minister, I want to state categorically and for the record, that such rumors are false,” said Rabuka.

“I want to assure tenants on these parcels of land, do not panic and do not allow these rumor-mongers to stop you from cultivating your farm, making a new investment or extending your existing investment.”

He said the People’s Coalition Government will ensure that all laws, existing titles and leases on land will continue to be upheld.

“We ask that those who spreading this rumors to stop their malicious rumor-mongering.”

“Decision on lease renewals, etc will be carried out only after extensive consultations and in accordance with due process of the law.”
