FijiFirst MP Penioni Ravunawa is calling on the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to be more transparent in the dissemination of information when it is forced to recall potentially risk-associated medications from the market.
Speaking to FijiLive, the shadow Minister for Health is also calling for a thorough investigation, and rigorous assessment of the recent recall of the Ray ENAP-10 Enalapril Maleate 10mg tablets and Ray ENAP-5 Enalapril Maleate 5mg tablets initiated by the Ministry.
Ravunawa said while it recognises that crafting such an advisory with necessary accuracy and clarity is a meticulous process; there is concern that there could be individuals unknowingly consuming these medications, risking their health.
He said it is important to speed up the process of issuing a public advisory.
He said the Opposition is urging the ministry to expedite this process in the interest of the public’s health and wellbeing.
“The Opposition also appeals to all citizens on these medications not to discontinue their treatment abruptly, but immediately consult their healthcare providers.”
Ravunawa said that they are actively seeking clarification and faster execution of the necessary steps from the ministry regarding the recall.
