Fire hinders USA Falcons’ progress

Fire slaughtered USA Flacons 17-7 and spoiled their plans to play in the men’s Cup Quarterfinals of the McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka today.

Both the teams had 4 points with a win and a draw in hand but USA looked hungry for a win in the match.

The Tira Wilagi captained side broke the USA defense through Apenisa Kuruisaqila in the fifth minute after he picked up a loose ball and ran towards the try line.

Inoke Levea kicked the conversion for a 7-0 lead which stayed unchanged till the break.

USA Captain Darell Williams dared to score the first try against the Fijians but he lost the ball forward just five meters in front of the try-line.

The Fire team threatened the Falcons with playmaker Soropepeli Cokanasiga, who barged over the midfield and scored right in the corner making the conversion attempt very difficult.

A few seconds later, USA Falcons fly-half Kahanuolamaikalani Koi responded with a try to give his side hope and he converted for  full 7 points.

Fire had the final say in the match and it was Laisenia Tuicolo who ensured his team stepped foot in the cup quarters despite the conversion failure.
