Woman charged over rental car scam

The Fiji Police’s MPaisa Taskforce has charged a 37-year-old woman for allegedly obtaining $500 from a member of the public for a car rental service that turned out to be fake.

The accused, a resident of Davuilevu, Nausori, is alleged to have on the 13th day of December 2023, dishonestly obtained the said amount through the MPaisa platform.

She allegedly engaged with another to deceive the victim of a rental car service which was posted on Facebook.

The victim sent the money where it was withdrawn by the accused.

She is then alleged to have cut off all forms of communication with the victim.

The woman has been charged with one count of Dishonestly Dealing with Personal Financial Information and one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception and will be produced at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
