Chess tournament to kick off in Suva

The 2024 Vodafone Fiji Rapid Chess Tournament is set to start this Saturday at 08:30 AM at The University of the South Pacific in Suva.

The tournament will feature a host of top players, including National Champion Candidate Master Manoj Kumar and challengers such as Yash Krishen Maharaj, CM Taione Sikivou, and CM Ronald Terubea.

The tournament coincides with the school holidays, offering an excellent opportunity for students to engage in mental challenges.

The Women’s Division is expected to be highly competitive with participants including Women’s Candidate Master Gloria Sukhu and several promising young players from local schools.

Special awards such as Best Upset and Best Newcomer will be given to encourage participation among new chess players.

Participants are reminded to arrive at the venue by 08:30 AM on Saturday to register and prepare for the competition.
