German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited Fiji Football Association headquarters in Vatuwaqa, Suva today.
During her visit, Baerbock met with the Future Kulas U15 Girls team, fresh from their victory at the U-15 Development tournament in Lautoka.
She praised their performance and encouraged them as they prepare for upcoming matches against Samoa, Tonga, PNG, and Tahiti.
According to the minister, the visit was an opportunity to advance collaboration between the two nations in various areas including climate change, economic growth, and sports diplomacy.
She reiterated Germany’s commitment to supporting sports development in Fiji.
FFA CEO Mohammed Yusuf welcomed the new partnership with the German Embassy in Fiji and the Lautoka community to develop a football facility.
He also noted that with two Oceania teams qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in Morocco, Fijian girls have increasing opportunities to participate in global football, similar to the U-20 team heading to Colombia for the FIFA World Cup this September.
