Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad said Holi is a festival of colours that unites families and friends.
Prof Prasad said as thousands of Hindus celebrate Holi today, let us be reminded that our forefathers, the girmitiyas brought all festivals with them. Despite the hardship of the indenture system, they ensured that people preserved their culture and traditions.
In a video statement, Prof Prasad said Holi is one of the many traditions and festivals that people celebrate together regardless of their religion, as it is a time to forget the past and difficulties and celebrate together.
He said Holi is about good over evil and time to reflect on ourselves and our plans.
He added many people have gone through flooding but he knows that people are looking forward to the celebration with their loved ones.
