Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Captain Meli Derenalagi says the team entered Churchill Park today with a mindset to win and they stayed focused throughout in their 20-10 win over the Crusaders.
Speaking after the match in Lautoka, Derenalagi said they were determined to bounce back from recent losses and do better on home soil.
“We were disappointed on the two losses from Moana Pacifika and Blues, so when we came in I knew boys were hungry to get a win, and the message from our coach was to bring out that energy and physicality and that’s what we showcased today,”
The focus was clear: to revive the signature Drua energy and physicality that had been missing. “It was about bringing our game back,” he added.
Looking back on Drua’s journey from their debut in Super Rugby to standing toe-to-toe with seasoned players, the skipper expressed pride in the team’s progression.
“In three years, we’ve grown from admirers to equals on the field,”
“This win is truly for the people who have stood by us,” he stated, attributing the team’s success to their loyal Fijian Drua nation fan base.
