Odisha FC faced a tough challenge against A-League champions Central Coast Mariners, losing 4-0 in the first leg of the AFC Cup inter-zone playoff semi-finals at Central Coast Stadium, Australia.
Goals from Mikael Doka (36’, 77’), Storm Roux (52’), and Ronald Barcellos (89’) secured a dominant win for the Mariners.
The hosts quickly took control, pressuring Odisha FC from the start. Despite early missed chances, Doka broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, with Joshua Nisbet providing the assist.
Odisha’s first significant attempt came 40 minutes in when a free-kick routine led to a shot by Diego Mauricio, which was saved by Mariners’ skipper Danny Vukovic.
The Mariners intensified their attack in the second half, with Roux extending their lead. Despite efforts from Mauricio and Puitea, Odisha struggled to breach the Mariners’ defense.
Doka’s penalty in the 76th minute further widened the gap, before he assisted Barcellos for the final goal, showcasing Mariners’ offensive strength.
Odisha FC now faces an uphill battle in the return leg at Kalinga Stadium on March 14, hoping to overturn the deficit and advance in the AFC Cup.
