Caginivalu retains Blue Ribbon Gold

Suva Grammar sprinter Semesa Caginivalu successfully defended the Blue Ribbon event of the 2024 Coca-Cola Games at the HFC Bank Stadium tonight with a time of 10.47 seconds.

The 19-year-old Namosi native dedicated the back to back win to his grandmother, parents, and coaches, thanking them for their support.

He said his opponents from other schools in the final were competitive in the final but he overcame them.

Caginivalu will now be preparing for the 200 meters and 4×100 meter relay events scheduled for tomorrow.

Suva Grammar also claimed silver through Aisake Manna, while Queen Victoria School’s Senirusi Rauqe who clocked the fasted time in the heats had to settle for bronze.

The final event of the first day was pretty tensed and the pressure on the runners took its toll as two finalists were disqualified, leaving the most awaited race of the year with only six runners.

Isimeli Tuvusa of Natabua High School was disqualified after a false start and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School’s Ratu Penaia Ramasirai also suffered the same fate.
