Rauluni to face ex team in Drua coaching debut

Moses Rauluni, the newly appointed head coach of the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s team is set to face his former team, the Queensland Reds in his debut match.

Rauluni served as the assistant coach for the Reds during the 2023 Super W season and is embracing the pressure and opportunity to lead in Fiji’s rapidly growing women’s rugby scene.

“Obviously, it’s a lot of pressure, but it’s a great opportunity to come and coach a Super W team in your home country. Coaching for women’s rugby has grown 60% in Fiji, and I love to be a part of it.”

“We might be rusty at the start, but no one wins cups at the start of the season; they always win at the end, so we are hoping to build and build,” Rauluni shared.

The former Flying Fijians skipper also praised his coaching staff, Kele Leawere and Seremaia Bai, mentioning their significant contributions to rugby and their mutual understanding, which he believes is vital for the team.

“It’s good to have Seremia. I didn’t just pick them because we’ve played rugby together but because they’ve done a good job in rugby. With Seremia being part of the Flying Fijians in the World Cup, he’s a very good coach, and that’s what the girls needed.”

“We know and understand each other pretty well, and that’s what the team needs,” Rauluni added.

The back-to-back Super Rugby Women’s champions Fijian Drua Women are scheduled to take on the Queensland Reds today at 3.35pm.
