Stage set for 12th Uluinakau 7s

Uluinakau 7s tournament organiser Malakai Yamaivava has confirmed that a new winner will be crowned at the 12th annual meet this weekend after the non-participation of the 2020 defending champions.

The 11th Uluinakau 7s was won by former coach Gareth Baber’s Fiji Babas White selection team which beat Fiji Babas Blue 26-24 in 2020.

“This year the best club will walk away with the $5000 cash prize on offer,” Yamaivava said.

“With the top teams in the country taking part we are anticipating an interesting tournament.”

Wairiki 7s champions Wardens will compete alongside elite sides Police Blue, the Westfield Babas and the Lami Cavaliers.

32 men’s teams will compete in the main cup competition, with 16 teams in the Youth Under-21 grade, four in the Women’s grade and four in the Fellow Fijians category.

“A total of $20,000 will be shared by our winners this year.”

“We will also have exciting teams from around the country including two teams from Malolo, and other grass-root teams eager to build their game.”

“There will be no shortage of action under the sun in the next two days.”

The Uluinakau 7s will be held tomorrow and Saturday at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
