WAF approves 5pc salary increase for staff

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has approved a five per cent salary increase for staff as of February 01, 2023.

The increment was possible through collaboration between the Authority and the Fiji Public Service Association (FPSA) over the past few months.

And the two parties formalised their partnership today by entering into a Master Collective Agreement which will see them commit to working with each other in good faith to maintain good industrial and harmonious relations.

WAF chief executive Dr Amit Chanan said the signing marks a major milestone and thanked the

FPSA for all the work that has been done in the past few months in making sure that they can provide a harmonious work environment for all employees.

“The agreement that we have signed today will ensure that WAF continues to be a great employer that provides a great place of work for our hardworking staff,” said Dr Chanan.

FPSA Secretary General, Rajeshwar Singh commended the WAF saying that the collective agreement is impressive and welcoming.

“The initiative that has been taken by one of the greatest Statutory Government entities, the Water Authority of Fiji and under the CEO’s leadership – You have done wonderful work, particularly in the area of ‘industrial relations’ and we had the pleasure of meeting with you and discussing and agreeing to things and the culmination of things today.”

Singh said this is a good sign for other Government agencies to take from here and it is a great time to be working collaboratively.

The signing of the agreement follows a Fiji-wide consultation with WAF employees that saw the WAF Executive team travel to all major operational sites in late 2022.
