Our game plan worked: Kumar

Ba coach Ronil Kumar said his side’s game plan worked well on time in their 1-nil win against host Nadi in the final of the 2022 Pacific Community Cup at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

Kumar told FijiLive after losing to Nadi in the opening pool game 2-1, they became aware of Nadi’s game plan and physical level.

“It was after a long time that Ba played in the final. We played a lot of semi-finals.”

“This was 60-minute football and we needed to finish in 60 minutes.”

We did exactly what we planned to do and we can see the result.”

“Nadi was a tough and physical team and we played them in the first game and lost.”

“I told the Ba boys to just play and told the strikers don’t worry about the physical part.”

“Our midfielders and defenders were in charge of the physical part and they tested Nadi’s physicality because we had a very strong line-up of players.”

Meanwhile, the former national and Ba midfielder dedicated the win to his family and children.

“Just proud of the boys today. It’s a win for my family and my kids whom I haven’t met for three weeks. I haven’t seen my family and like the players, we also made a lot of sacrifices and it’s worth the win. My wife and kids would always call me and check me up and I just wanted to win this tournament with the boys because I have returned to the team after some time.”

“It’s a big win for our young players who are also school students and those who came from overseas. They were studying in the camp and I’m just happy that their sacrifices saw the end result.”

Ba got $10,000 richer while runners-up Nadi received $3,000.
