NFA investigates Vatuwaqa Primary fire

The National Fire Authority is investigating the cause of the fire at Vatuwaqa Primary School which occurred early yesterday.

NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane says the command center received a call around 3 am yesterday and fire officers from the Suva fire station were assigned.

He said the team found that one of the school blocks was already fully engulfed in flames, and the fire had already spread to the school administration block and adjacent building.

Sowane said December is a month of festivity, and it is imperative for people to be consciously aware of their surroundings and to ensure that fire safety measures are taken seriously.

According to NFA statistics, the team has attended nine property fires in the last 12 days and Sowane is alerting adults and guardians to be extra alert with children at home during this festive season.
