The Fiji Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams, set to compete in the 2024 FIH Hockey World Cup in Oman, sought blessings in a traditional itatau ceremony at the State House today.

President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere hosted the teams, acknowledging their commitment to representing Fiji on the international stage.

“This event symbolizes unity and our nation’s support for our athletes. On behalf of the First Lady, myself, and all Fijians, we extend our best wishes for the tournament. May you be blessed in your endeavors,” he said.

Coach of the Fiji Hockey Women’s team, Hector Smith spoke on behalf of both teams, expressing gratitude for the Head of State’s support.

“We are deeply thankful for the blessings and encouragement from our President. It’s an honor to represent Fiji and have the support of our nation.”

The Fiji teams are gearing up for the prestigious event, which will take place from the 24th to the 31st of this month, where 16 teams in each category will vie for the top spot.
