Govt will investigate Turaga, PM confirms

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed the Government’s plan to investigate a complaint filed against the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga for alleged financial misconduct.

Speaking to the media, the Prime Minister said that he has received the complaint and he will respond to the letter himself.

Rabuka said the complaint will be dealt with according to the Government’s operational procedures and the Attorney-General would be investigated.

He said they also carry out all necessary activities that will lawfully answer the complaint.

Earlier this week the Attorney-General referred one of the dailies to the Fiji Media Council for what he termed as ‘baseless and misleading’ reporting.

Turaga said the article was one-sided and that the news organisation failed to reach out to him for comments.

He said that one-sided reporting not only damages the credibility of the media but also leads to misunderstandings among members of the public.

He also has referred the media to his lawyers for further comments on the matter.
