Fiji beats Solomon Islands in second friendly

The Bula Boys bounced back in style to beat the Solomon Islands 2-0 in their second and final friendly international at the Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara today.

After losing 2-1 in the first match on Monday, the Roy Krishna skippered side with some changes to the lineup, lifted its performance and played constructive football in both spells.

Rewa goalie Isikeli Sevanaia got his big break in the starting lineup and the youngster did not disappoint as he pulled off some fine saves in the tough encounter.

Thomas Dunn and in-form Suva marksman Merrill Nand also started the match and teamed up with Krishna and Nabil Begg in the forwards.

The Solomon Islands on the other hand strengthened their team by including Captain Joses Nawo and Atkin Kaua.

Ba midfielder Mohammed Raheem opened Fiji’s scoring in the 44th minute via a trademark free-kick of his which left goalkeeper Phillip Mango stunned.

Mohammed RaheemKrishna used his experience and skills pretty well to double the lead for the Fijians in the 64th minute.

The hosts toiled hard to get back but some excellent defending by youngster Sterling Vasconcellos, Scott Wara and Filipe Baravilala kept them at bay.
