Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will ask Attorney-General Siromi Turaga to step aside from his position if he feels Turaga is interfering with the police investigations for alleged financial misconduct.
Speaking to FijiLive, the Prime Minister said he received a letter of complaint against the Attorney-General and will soon ask him to respond to the allegation put forward.
Rabuka said: “Concurrently Police would have started their investigation on the nature of the complaint and if I consider that he as a Cabinet Minister is untenable or may interfere in the process of the law, then I may ask that he stands aside.”
Rabuka said he has yet to ask the Attorney-General for a response and if and when he does, Turaga would have to respond within a week, which Rabuka said is enough time.
Attorney-General Siromi Turaga has denied the allegation and labeled them baseless and misleading reporting by one of the local dailies.
Turaga has referred FijiLive to his lawyers for further comments on the matter.
