Truck driver avoids collision, bumps students

Two students aged 18 and 19 years are admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva after they were bumped by a truck near the Laqere traffic lights in Nasinu yesterday.

It is alleged the 30-year-old suspect tried to stop his truck from colliding with another vehicle at the traffic lights, causing the vehicle to veer onto the footpath and bumped the two victims.

Both victims were rushed to the Makoi Health Centre and later transferred to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where they remain admitted in stable condition.

Director Traffic SSP Mitieli Divuana is calling on drivers to be alert at all times and drive within the speed limit.

He said by driving within the speed limit, drivers will have ample time to make decisions that could prevent an accident or the loss of life.

The road death toll currently stands at 16 compared to 22 for the same period last year.
