Fijian troops are safe in Golan Heights

Fijian troops are safe in the Golan Heights following a phase of tension, uncertainty, and confrontation in the Middle East after a wave of drones and missiles flew towards Israel overnight on Sunday.

Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua confirmed this to FijiLive today.

Tikoduadua  said he has been briefed on the matter by the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, and will update the Prime Minister and Cabinet on any update on the matter.

He said this is under the assurance of the Government that the troops are safe without going into the politics of the war between Iran and Israel.

“If there is anything that the Fijian people need to know is that our troops are safe and I will make sure to tell them of any development,” he added.

Over the weekend, Iran launched the unprecedented attack in response to a suspected Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, earlier this month.

It marked a new chapter in discord between the two states that percolated for years and has spiraled since Israel declared war on Hamas last October.
