Allegation of flying pipes from MHCC

Carpenters Limited PTE will issue a press statement to the allegations of unsecured building materials (steel pipes) flying across to BSP Dominion House, missing a woman and a child who were walking along Thomson Street.

Fijians have taken their frustration to social media, indicating that they have had more than enough near misses in the past, causing the Director of Carpenters to issue a press statement tomorrow with regard to the alleged incident.

Director, Daniel Whippy, said that they received a letter from the Ministry of Labour indicating the Ministry’s intention to inspect the construction site on Tuesday.

Whippy said the Stop Work Order placed initially on the MHCC Tower had been lifted by the Ministry of Labour and the Suva City Council.

Whippy confirmed this with FijiLive in a phone interview.

Earlier, the Ministry of Local Government said the Stop Work Order was placed to access and to confirm whether there were structural reinforcements issue required on the MHCC Tower and MHCC and that engineers from abroad were brought in.
