A 36-year-old man of Cubuya Settlement in Bua is the latest victim on our roads.
The victim was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old man from the same area.
According to Police, at around 04.35pm yesterday, upon reaching Batiri, they overtook a parked bus and collided with an oncoming truck driven by a 45-year-old man of Tabia, Labasa.
The man died instantly due to the impact.
Director Traffic, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana said this is the second accident in two days where speeding and overtaking resulted in deaths.
He is calling on drivers to consider other road users on the road while driving.
“This kind of behavior does not only put other drivers at risk, but passengers and pedestrians are also at risk,” said SSP Mitieli.
He also stressed that there wasn’t any reason for both drivers to be speeding.
“They were returning home from work yesterday and in Nadi, they were on their way to visit a relative in Hospital. There was no need to rush but the poor decision has cost two lives.”
Investigation into the accident continues.
