Ex-journos make bold business move

Former mainstream journalists Shanal and Shireen Shivan have furthered their business aspirations by venturing into a cosmetics and skin care retail outlet.

The couple invested in their first business, Salt and Pepper Home Décor in Sports City complex, Suva last April and in just a little more than twelve months, they have launched their new business- Bold and Beautiful at the same location.

The young entrepreneur couple are official suppliers of home décor to several hotels such as the Tanoa Group of Companies, Outrigger Fiji, GPH, Holiday Inn and Marriot Resort to name a few.

Speaking during the launch, Shanal said they have entered the cosmetics and skin care industry to provide top quality products at reasonably affordable prices.

“As we mark another milestone, we have a quest to become the most trusted beauty company in Fiji and remain vital for the next coming years and beyond.”

“We want to create a culture to adapt to the big picture perspective. We want all reputable skin care products accessible to our ladies.”

“We don’t want our ladies in Fiji to be left behind. I am here to change the beauty market.”

He said their products are cheapest in the market and the best is yet to come.

“We are bringing premium skin care and beauty products that you all can afford. Most of our products are still on the way and will arrive in the country soon. It’s a loud, proud and bold commitment from my end that from today that no longer products like Revlon, Maybelline, NYX Garnier and L’oreal will be expensive.”

“My message to young people out there is to take the risk, be bold and be you. As an entrepreneur below 30, I came to Suva a decade ago with dreams and aspirations and I am living my dreams. Having worked for various news outlets to being an employer has been quite a journey.”

“We aspire to be a trusted fashion forward brand that caters for everyone.”

He added that Fiji has a conducive business environment and the Coalition Government is making head waves in improving our economy.

“It is such assurance that keeps budding business entrepreneurs to remain confident and not shy away from making huge moves.”

Officiating at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad congratulated the couple on their success and added that not only are they business owners, but they are also allowing their six employees to look after their families through their jobs.

“This is an exciting, although challenging time for our country, but I know that good things are going to come.”

“We want to assure the people of Fiji, especially young entrepreneurs that the Government will provide a conducive environment, one that will promote and incentivise our businesses – especially those who are engaged in MSMEs.”
