In a collaborative stride, the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has partnered with the various Town and City Councils for a joint surveillance and monitoring campaign, focusing on local supermarkets to ensure the safety and suitability of food products.
FCCC chief executive, Joel Abraham said eight supermarkets within the Lautoka area have already undergone meticulous inspections, adhering to the highest standards of food safety as stipulated under the Food Safety Act of 2003.
He said the initiative echoes a shared commitment between FCCC and the Lautoka City
Council’s Health department to safeguard public health, especially during such festive
seasons where consumer spending surges.
Abraham is urging consumers to make sure to verify the price and condition of items before making any purchases, to always request receipts and keep proof of purchase in case of potential issues in the future and report any violations to FCCC.
