Fijiana overcome Japan to reach semifinal

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team has progressed to the semifinals of the Singapore 7s after overcoming a spirited Japan outfit 12-10 in the first Cup Quarterfinal tonight.

The Saiasi Fuli coached side had to fight tooth and nail against the Japanese to book a semifinal spot for the first time this season.

Ana Maria Naimasi’s converted try gave the Fijians a 7-0 halftime lead.

Adi Vani Buleki sprinted away for Fiji’s second try midway in the second half before Japan launched a comeback and scored two unconverted tries through Yume Hirano and Arisa Nishi but Yume Hirano missed both conversions.

Japan almost got their third and winning try right at the end but a timely tackle saw the attacking player lose the ball just millimeters away from the try-line.
