Fiji Pearls improve world ranking

The Fiji Pearls ended the 2023 season with an improved 16th place ranking in the world.

The world ranking was updated last month to include the results from international series that took place from the 30th September to the 10th December, with 84 matches taking place across the five regions of World Netball.

This takes the number of matches played since the annual update on the 1st March 2023 up to 202.

The Fiji Pearls have replaced Samoa at 16th, following their silver medal finish at the Pacific Games last month.

The Una Rokoura coached side won all their games in the pool stage, as well as their semi-final before losing to 8th ranked team Tonga in the final.

Netball Fiji chief executive Vivian Koster said she is happy with the progress made by the national team in terms of the global ranking.

“It’s a slow build to increase our ranking but that is how the netball rankings work.”

“It includes older matches dating back to 2019, these will eventually fall off and Fiji will likely increase their ranking again.”
