Fiji will submit a written submission to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which has been requested by the UN General Assembly to issue an advisory opinion on the “obligations of States in respect of climate change”.
In a Cabinet decision, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said the UNGA Resolution on the ICJ Advisory Opinion for climate change recognizes the challenge of the climate crisis, the UN’s commitment to global protection, and the human right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
Rabuka said that Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations headquarters in New York will deliver Fiji’s oral submission to the court at The Hague.
He added the oral submission will elaborate on the written submission and respond to submissions made by other UN Member States and international and regional Organisations.
