‘I will continue playing for my home team’: Begg

National marksman Nabil Begg has confirmed that he will continue to represent his home district Ba in the 2022 football season.

Speaking to FijiLive, Begg confirmed that a few clubs did approach him but he turned them down to stay in his hometown.

“I’m not going anywhere; I’m staying with the Ba team. This is my home town,” Begg said.

“I’ve started with this team and have achieved so much.”

“I’m going to play in the Ba team this year and we are looking forward to this season.”

“There were some districts that appreciated me but I’m just staying here with Ba.”

The 18-year-old also rubbished rumors and claims made by people on social media saying he will make a move in the pre-season transfer window which opened on the 9th of January.

“I saw some things posted on social media but I’m still with the Ba team. I have made up my mind. I’m not moving anywhere.”

“The season will start soon so I’m doing my personal training at home. The whole team will meet soon and then we will prepare for the year ahead.”

The former Kamil Muslim College student helped Fiji Under 19 qualify for the Under-20 FIFA World Cup in Indonesia after scoring the winning goal for Fiji in the semi-final match against New Caledonia last year in Tahiti.

“The World Cup is the main agenda for the boys this year. It will be my first ever World Cup and I want to play for Fiji.”

“I want to play for my home country and give back to the people.”

“After the World Cup then I’ll decide on something. Some approaches have come from New Zealand but the World Cup is on my mind right now.”

The FIFA Under 20 World Cup will be played from May to June in Indonesia this year.
