Kumar’s Samoa has a foot in Nations Cup

The Ravinesh Kumar coached Samoa has taken a major step towards qualifying for the OFC Men’s Nations Cup in Vanuatu in June after a convincing 4-1 win over hosts Tonga at the qualifying tournament in Nukualofa today.

Kumar’s influence was clearly visible as the Samoans played more organised and tactical football throughout the encounter.

A penalty in the 11th minute by Dilo Tumua and a goal just before halftime by Nathan Vilamu gave Samoa a 2-0 lead.

Ethan Stowers netted a second half double to seal the win while Tonga managed a late consolation through Kulisitoa Kite.

Samoa will win the OFC Men’s Nations Cup 2024 – Qualifying, if they beat the Cook Islands in Saturday’s second match of the three team, round robin tournament.
