Prof Prasad hits back at accusation published today

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad says he is surprised that the Fijian Elections Office did not put to him the allegations of breach of the Political Parties Act 2014 and falsifying and non-declaration of assets.

Responding to an article published in one of the dailies,  the National Federation Party Leader said that the article is false and a concoction.

Prof Prasad said that he does not see how the Acting Registrar of Political Parties Ana Mataiciwa could reach the view that there was a case for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption to investigate without first asking for answers from him.

Prasad said that his attorneys will write to the media organisation concerned and to the Fijian Elections Office.

“I can assure the Fijian Elections Office and the public that the allegations in respect of my declaration as reported… are completely malicious and without substance.” Prasad said.

Prof Prasad also confirmed that no news outlet had reached out to him for comments.

He said that the article stated that: “This is not a good time’ when I was supposedly contacted by a journalist to comment on the matter.”

“This is unethical and irresponsible. This is also absolutely false. My lawyers will write to them on this issue,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
