Weightlifter and Team Fiji’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony, Taniela Rainibogi has been named the Best Male Athlete of the 2023 Pacific Games which concluded in the Solomon Islands yesterday.
Rainibogi won three gold medals in the 109kg weightlifting competition and was also awarded an Oceania gold medal.
The best female athlete is another weightlifter, Jenly Wini from Solomon Islands, who won the first medals of the Games.
Rainibogi is currently in Qatar and is scheduled to compete in the Weightlifting Grand Prix with the hopes of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
