Sayed-Khaiyum lives in a different reality: Kamikamica

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica says the former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum lives in a world far from the truth.

Speaking to FijiLive and responding to Sayed-Khaiyum’s rant on what he claims to be a deteriorating state of Fiji’s economy and the lack of investor confidence in the country, Kamikamica said that as much as Sayed-Khaiyum wants to talk down the economy, investor confidence is at a high with a lot of big companies wanting to invest in Fiji.

Kamikamica said one example is that a group of business partners want to set up a $2 million sawmilling business around the Tailevu North area.

He said that there is a $3 billion pipeline of investments that is waiting to happen – Google has a $200 million investment in the country.

He said the approval process for Google was seven months, which was efficiently carried through and imagined the message sent to domestic or foreign investors.

“This is the new Fiji that we are talking about in terms of investor confidence… last week the Prime Minister hosted some private sector businesses together with some key ministers in the Cabinet Room to strategize and discuss issues.”

Kamikamica said Sayed-Khaiyum can say whatever he likes but from the Government’s side there are strong indicators that show that investor confidence would in turn grow the economic pie and the economy.

FijiLive has reached out to Sayed-Khaiyum for comments on the matter.
