Stop sharing beating video, Commission urges

The Online Safety Commission is pleading with members of the public to stop sharing the disturbing video of a child being subjected to violence on all social media platforms.

In a statement, the Commission has urged the public to refrain from spreading such content.

The Commission said sharing such videos only perpetuates the cycle of violence and exploitation.

“It is crucial for individuals to exercise responsible online behaviour and prioritize the well-being of those involved.”

“Please report all links to the respective social media platforms or directly to the Online Safety Commission. Let’s share the responsibilities and work towards creating a safer online environment for everyone, especially for our children,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Minister for Women and Children Lynda Tabuya still has the video on her public Facebook page.

As of this morning, over 3,000 people have reacted to the video while more than 900 have shared and over 1,000 have commented since the video was posted yesterday.

In a media conference, Tabuya said the child has been placed under Emergency State Care, where she will be cared for since the child does not feel safe in her own home.

Tabuya has called on parents and guardians to stop this kind of behavior as this is not discipline – this is child abuse.

“It is a crime and must stop. Five out of six children in Fiji face this.”

The Minister also highlighted that the adults seen in the video are also part of perpetuating this crime.

“Speak up, speak in, protect the child and report the perpetrator. Let us band together Fiji, and protect our children, be the voice for the voiceless, be the help for the helpless,” Tabuya said.
