Weather hinders Greenstar’s NCC prep

Nadroga’s Greenstar FC coach Terence Odiun says the unfavorable weather condition in the west is affecting the side’s preparation for the National Club Championship (NCC) play off this month.

Odiun said they are unable to have daily training due to heavy rain in the afternoon while he said some players have returned from the two-weeks break and began their training yesterday.

“Weather is the major factor for us right now. We can’t train in this rain and if we do so then we will put our players at risk which we don’t want to. Their health is important and for that reason we are not allowing players to train in the rain.”

“We began our training at the end of November and we played a few club games and also some in house matches with the local teams in Nadroga and also the Under 16 team for their OFC Championship.”

Greenstar finished as runners up after losing to Rewa’s Kasavu FC in 2020 but this year with the service of top players like Captain Tomasi Tuicakau, Semesa Sacere, Zain Ali, Zoheb Raheem and Taniela Raubula, the team is gunning to win the final.

“We haven’t won any NCC recently but we have reached the final once. We have an idea of what to expect in the final and with the current players in the team, we have the right spark.”

“Our aim is to win the final and for that we have to ensure wins in the playoffs. Most of these players have played in the Digicel Premier League and we have some youths as well who have been playing weekly in the Under 19 competition.”

The final play off will be at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka from the 19-22 of this month.
