The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is proud to be part of Fiji’s national ageing policy.

Speaking at the national ageing policy launch,  UNFPA Director and Representative of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Pacific Sub-Regional Dirk Jena said the need for a special policy is important in Fiji and the Pacific and he is honoured to be part of it.

Jena said he is confident that all stakeholders will uphold the goals of the policy and he is looking forward to see the policy being implemented.

He said the policy will help people come into terms with life cycle and it entails great life expectancy.

The policy aims for an inclusive society that instills dignity, respect for human rights and meets the basic needs through the empowerment of older persons in Fiji.

“Loosing senior citizens is as if loosing a library that burns down,”Jena said.

He acknowledges the Ministry of social welfare, women and poverty alleviation for the milestone that they have achieved.
