Tandon honoured with Padma Shri

The Indian Government has honoured versatile Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon with Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award this year for her contribution to the field of arts.

Just a day earlier, the 48-year-old was selected by the Women and Child Development Ministry for the Women 20 (W20), the Women’s Empowerment engagement wing at the G20, as a delegate.

The National Film Award winner for Best Actress for her role in the movie “Daman” (2001), made her Bollywood debut in 1991 with Patthar Ke Phool.

She also starred in successful movies like Dilwale and Mohra in 1994, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi in 1996, and Ziddi in 1997 where she established herself as a leading lady in Bollywood during the time.

Tandon has been credited as ‘Raveena Ravi Tandon’; her late father, filmmaker Ravi’s name was added to hers.

One of the highest civilian honours in the nation, the Padma Awards is given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.

The other recipients of Padma awards in the field of arts include – music composer of the oscar-nominated Telugu hit song “Naatu naatu ” MM Keeravani (Padma Shri),  tabla maestro Zakir Hussain (Padma Vibhushan), and singer Vani Jairam (Padma Bhushan).

The President of India Her Highness Droupadi Murmu will soon confer these prestigious awards to the winners at a formal event at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
